Marine Artifacts

At Ponsford Ltd, we take great pride in our expertise in marine artifact conservation. One of our most notable projects involved the preservation of artifacts recovered from the RMS Titanic. During this project, we had the privilege of collaborating with the Smithsonian Institution to analyze organic materials found in and around the recovered objects.

Our accomplishments have been featured in museums displaying Titanic collections and other maritime exhibits around the world. Under the leadership of Gordon Ponsford, our professional team developed a state-of-the-art desalinization laboratory that allows us to begin the conservation process the moment artifacts are removed from the ocean. This process includes on-site artifact assessment, desalinization, and the stabilization of both organic and inorganic materials.

Ponsford Ltd. has worked on major marine conservation projects including the RMS Titanic and the San Miguel, part of the Nuestra Señora de Atocha fleet sunk off the Florida Keys in 1622. Our work also extends to smaller private collections and individual discoveries, reflecting our commitment to preserving maritime history at every scale.
